Wander downtown, see art on Thursday

By Chuck Sterling Editor

Annandale artists and musicians will showcase their talents Thursday night, Oct. 1, at several downtown locations.

The Downtown Annandale Art Crawl will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Main and Cedar streets.

An estimated 30 or more artists will be hosted by 10 businesses, according to Charlene Schaefer, a member of the Annandale Area Community Team's Arts Committee, which is sponsoring the event for the sixth year.

Many talented local people will display their artwork, she said, and often it will be for sale.

Variety of art

Their work will include pottery, photography, vintage jewelry, paintings, woodworking and quilts.

One or two artists will be featured at each location, Schaefer said, and most places will have a musician.

The idea is "to bring people into the community and to let people display what they do."

Annandale artist Elizabeth Hood Anderson, for example, will be at the In Hot Water coffee shop along with a group of painters who have worked with her. "The walls will be full" of their paintings, Schaefer said.

At Snooty Fox Gallery & Gifts, about a dozen people will display their homemade quilts. The quilt exhibit was set up last week, Schaefer said. "It's just beautiful."

And the artwork of the late Lotus Williams will be on display at the Advocate.

The musicians will include pianist Sharon Planer, an Annandale High School jazz ensemble and other AHS performers.

"It has become a social affair," Schaefer said, with each location serving some kind of food and in many cases something to drink. And so far it's been blessed with beautiful fall weather.

"Wander down the street with friends and admire the talents of the community," she said.

Other host businesses are Curves, Zahlers Photography, Annandale Embroidery, A.M. Boutique, State Farm Insurance, Stage Coach West and Miller's Jewelry.
